We meet Pets Fayre

This month we speak to Sarah, owner of Pets Fayre in Southborough.

"Pets Fayre is one of the oldest businesses in Southborough, established over 50 years ago.  I took over the shop in 2016 with a vision of creating a pet shop that focuses on animal welfare.  It has become a one-stop shop for pet owners with services including pet boarding, pet grooming, pet sitting, dog walking, recycling, advice and supplies.  With over ninety 5 star reviews, we are a trusted and loved local shop.

Pets Fayre is a pet shop with a difference and your pet's welfare is at that heart of what we do.  I quit banking in 2015 to volunteer at a local rescue centre, where I was shocked at the volume of pets being regularly abandoned and wanted to do something to help.  I bought Pets Fayre in 2016 and stopped the sale of live animals, instead focusing on educating owners on the responsibilites of pet ownership.

Since then Pets Fayre has really grown - with the opening of a small pet boarding service in 2016, dog grooming in 2017, dog walking and pet sitting in 2018 - and I'm continuously looking at other ways to support pet owners and their beloved companions.

We are currently working towards a more environmentally friendly business, which started with the launch of our recycling collection programme through Terracycle.  Since last year, we have sent over one tonne of pet packaging waste for recycling, raising over £500 for our chosen charity Folly Wildlife.  We're now working with our suppliers to offer more natural and eco -friendly pet products.

With the COVID challenges in 2020, we have adapted and are still going strong.  We set up our online shop, offering free delivery and click & collect, along with supporting our elderly customers with basic shopping requests.  Following lockdown we've hired a new team including Sally-Ann as Supervisor, Liam as Shop Assistant, Sophie as Grooming Stylist and Maisie as Assistant Dog Groomer.  As an essential business providing animal feed and welfare services, we remain open and are here for all of your pets' needs from 9am - 5.30pm Tuesday to Saturday and online 24/7 at petsfayre.co.uk.

We are now busy preparing for Christmas, selling our famous Nordman Fir non drop christmas trees which will be available around 25th November.  You'll be able to pre-order them soon online and we offer free delivery or click and collect.  We also support other local small businesses by selling handmade items and local produce throughout December.

The team and I deliver a personal service and we welcome everyone with a warm and friendly manner so please do visit and shop local this Christmas - and with 10% off for all tncard members."
